I just wondering if i can because there are alot of rocks and I do not want to damage it but I know the shop vac is very strong and vacuums well. does anyone use it for this purpose.

Yep, I do too! I vacuum up plaster,rocks,nails, and everything else. Shop Vac sells all kinds of attachments just for this purpose.
Yes I use shop vacs at work to clean up all kinds of construction debris. You have to set it up for either wet or dry material. You must put a paper dirt filter in there when vacuuming up dry material. You have to remove the paper dirt filter when vacuuming up wet material.
Go for it. Shop vacs are not your ordinary vacuum cleaner.
