KARIN BUCHER, LANDSCAPING DESIGN, HER STORY

I grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and had my first introduction to landscaping design working at a nursery in High School. From the age of 19 until I was 25, I lived in Amherst, Massachusetts. In 1987, I received an Associate’s Degree from Stockbridge School of Agriculture, Amherst, MA. Those two years gave me “hands-on” experience as well as giving me knowledge of the business aspect of landscaping, from installation to demolition. I continued for three more years at UMASS Amherst, to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, graduated May, 1990.

I was an Honorary Professor at University of Colorado, Boulder, from 1994 for eight years. The course I taught was in the Environmental Design Department, it was a studio course that met 9 hours per week. I taught students how to make drawings more marketable by applying color, and how colors affect people’s mood and emotion. While teaching, I worked as a landscape architect for a high-end design/build firm, producing hand drawn renderings of residential properties. I can perform Computer Aided Design (C.A.D.) drawings, they are all the current rage, but have found that the various companies I have designed for, and especially their customers have preferred hand drawn renderings as they are much more personal.

I began working with Jim Gray, the owner of J’s Custom Concrete and Denver Landscaping Design Contractor, twelve years ago. It is an ideal fit. The integrity of the entire staff as well as the owner, have proven to be the best place for me to continue to do what I love: Landscaping design in such a way that the client knows first and foremost; I listen to their desires, incorporate those ideas with my extensive knowledge and with suggestions that work in the unusual climate we love and call home.
